I Will Be What I Eat

What is the value of a good sport nutritionist?

I am about to find out the answer to that question. I’ve just taken on a sport nutritionist to Team LG. This is exciting, because I’ve always had long course GI issues and I’m finally about to get some professional advice.

Nutrition is big business these days. You don’t know who to trust because there is so much conflicting information out there. If you take into consideration the anti fat campaign, the anti carbohydrate campaign, the vegan death march, and the warnings against hyponatremia (low sodium), you’d be likely to conclude that the only healthy option is to eat nothing at all.

Mel Brooks, as the 2013 year old man, said the dietary secret to his survival was water: only drinking pure water. He quickly admitted to eating stuffed cabbage, because no one can live on water alone.

No matter what is good for us, we end up eating foods that aren’t… at least I do.

I’ve developed a philosophy over the years that helps guide me through the BS. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work so well, hence the reason I reached out for professional help.

In the next few weeks I will be working with an expert in the ways of the athletic culinary arts to develop a nutrition and hydration plan for IRONMAN 70.3 Chattanooga 2020. And it’s not just a race plan that we’re after. It’s the whole thing. We’re going to build a daily plan for training and we’ll do a sweat analysis. Pretty soon, I’ll be eating and drinking like an athlete instead of … whatever it is I’m doing now.

I’ll keep you posted. Until then…
