Mounting the bike in a triathlon doesn’t have to be anything special. It only takes a moment. However, I turn it into a big deal.
Using my philosophy of no stopping, I mount the bike a bit differently than most. It’s not earth shatteringly different, but it’s quick and it works for me. The biggest time saver is having all my equipment on the bike, so right after mounting I get dressed: shoes, gloves, glasses, watch, etc.
There’s nothing wrong with stopping to mount the bike. A lot of people do it and it’s safe. If too many athletes in front of me stop to mount their bikes, a traffic jam can result. That’s fine too. I believe it’s my responsibility to run around the traffic or fine a hole through it.
